ABOUT US

South Asia CMJ is founded on the Biblical principles of Compassion, Mercy and Justice.

OUR MISSION

South Asia CMJ (Compassion, Mercy & Justice) is a Christian, non-profit organization incorporated under the laws of the State of Washington.  We are  organized to raise funds for charitable, vocational and educational purposes for those who are in desperate need.  One hundred percent of funds raised will be expended for such purposes and in accordance with guidelines established by the Board of Directors.

OUR VISION

At South Asia CMJ, our vision is to be a catalyst for transformative change in South Asia by fostering sustainable development, empowerment, and well-being. Guided by our commitment to charitable, vocational, and educational initiatives, we aspire to create a future where communities thrive, education flourishes, and individuals experience lasting positive impact. By strategically supporting ministries aligned with our Christian values, and those led by dedicated country nationals engaged in church planting, vocational training, and diverse ministries, we envision a region where the marginalized are uplifted, and hope is a beacon for all.

OUR FOUNDERS

We are Jerry and Cathie Gates from Gig Harbor, Washington. We have been married for 62 years, have 3 children, 7 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.  In 1991 we were invited by friends to join them on a trek in Nepal. This was an amazing experience which opened our hearts to the people of S. Asia.  We have made multiple trips to India, Nepal and Bangladesh since 1991. In 2006 we were invited to teach Biblical Conflict Resolution to international mission teams. Often, due to a lack of understanding of one another’s cultures, there tended to be conflicts within the teams.  We were thrilled to help people begin to understand how God wants us to handle and resolve conflict while restoring relationships.  While on these teaching trips, we made many friends who are deeply involved in serving the poor, the marginalized, and persecuted.  We remain in close contact with these friends. Because of our close connections, we hear about many of their financial and physical needs, not just for themselves but for the many they serve..   Our desire is to help meet their needs as national pastors who live by faith in God.  Their full-time jobs are ministering to people and their needs.
